Coming Back to Life

Back in March, I received a package in the mail. It contained a 2-in-1 Asian Pear tree, a Christmas gift from my brother's family. I was so worried when I first planted it.  It didn't look so hot, the leaves became all droopy and slowly all the leaves fell off the tree.  I babysat it for the last 2 1/2 months, watering it everyday.  Then, in the last few weeks, I noticed that there were leaves forming on the branches.  I was so happy that it bounced back to life!  Here are the before and after photos.  I can't wait until the tree is big enough to produce Asian Pears.  I just hope the tree survives the winters here!!

  1. My mother has Asian Pear trees in her yard in Portland Oregon and we have 1 in our Vancouver yard just across the River and they all do fine. We have occasional bad winter weather like you do, so I bet yours will do good.

  2. It's great when stuff defies your expectations and recovers from the brink.

I just wish it would happen more often!

  3. Too bad you are not closer, you could have all the pears you wanted. Ours are breaking the limbs this year.

  4. Pears can be pretty hardy -- it should be ok in your winters.

  5. Happy to see the tree is recovering. It is so difficult to plant fruit trees and then WAIT, wait for them to be healthy and then wait for fruit! How exciting though!

  6. looks great! My father has Asian pear trees and they do wonderfully. I remember my dog used to sit under the tree and eat all the fallen ones.

  7. So glad to hear that it survived! The mail order trees do look pathetic when they arrive sometimes, don't they? I just did a post about a 3-in-one apple tree that we planted four years ago and is only now producing fruit...

  8. That is awesome! What a great gift. Our next door neighbors have an Asian pear tree in their yard and it really produces - they traded with us for figs last year, and those pears were worth it! Glad yours has survived!!
