Beans: Signs of Life.

I love how my bean plants have taken over the home made trellises. I wish they would produce more pole beans! Do you like our owl sitting on the post? (click on photo to bigify) Haha. It's supposed to scare away the birds and other critters. However, we still see birds in the garden. I don't think that owl scares away anything. It is cute though.

I was out watering yesterday and finally saw some signs of life! The pole beans are finally producing again! Hooray! We missed you my sweet haricot verts!

  1. I hope tomorrow that I will find beans - they have been flowering like crazy! My mockingbird laughs at every scary thing I erect outside LOL

  2. Maybe you should try a hawk statue instead. We had a hawk in our yard this morning and he caused quite a stir with the birds! I read your post about the mosquito repellent. I have a similar situation and have been forced to use Deep Woods off, which is 25% DEET, because nothing else I tried worked, especially the "natural" ones. I don't like using DEET though so I will give Cutter a try.

  3. I like the owl and the beans look great. I like bean salad. Steam the beans, do not cut them up, until nearly done. Prepare a salad dressing, cold pressed olive or Macademia oil white balsamic vinegar pepper and salt fresh garlic, fresh onions red, mix and it is yummy and healthy.(I use only fresh and organic ingredients.this is a swiss recipe.)

  4. Your beans look great. I really like your trellises. Those are my downfall with pole beans. I never seem to get them right. This year, I'm using the popcorn plants!

I like your owl too, but I agree, most birds don't seem to be the least bit scared of bird deterrents like that.

  5. Your owl is probably not working, because it's not their natural preditor.... They don't know to be scared of it.

  6. You will know the owl is beyond useless when the birds start using it as a perch. Ha Ha

  7. Yay for your beans! I haven't posted about it yet, because, well, it's still too raw... but deer came and destroyed our bean patch night before last. Pretty devastating. So now I'm happy for any vicarious beanage. :)
