Looking Green in Fall

Yesterday, I was checking on the progress in the garden, it still looked pretty green.  Most of the plants like tomatoes, eggplant, beets, are spent, but some plants are still going strong such as bell peppers, cucumbers, pole beans and snow peas.  So many peppers!
They sure do take forever to turn color!! Anyone have any good tips on how to make it change color faster?
I love how pretty the peppers are. I've been reading a lot of blogs that say they will dig up the bell pepper plants, put them in pots and over winter them. I think I shall do the same! I have lots of bell pepper plants that could be good candidates to bring them indoors.
I have one cucumber vine that won't die. It looks really spent but it keeps pumping out kirbys. I'll take it!
The remaining snow pea plants that didn't perish in the storm are finally fruiting! They sure are cute!
What's left in your garden?

  1. Oooh, we can compare notes on overwintering peppers with your bells vs my cayenne peppers! My green cayenne peppers have turned red after picking them, but I don't think that would work for bell peppers, based on my limited experience with grocery store bought green bell peppers. I really hoped that your bells would have turned color by now, but they do seem determined to stay green. :(

  2. I so wish that I had a vegetable garden! I am jealous of your beautiful peppers. I did not know that you could over winter them. I was also inspired by your grape jelly post. next year I am making jam with my concord grapes. Have a great weekend.

  3. Most of our bell peppers did not change color either. I have noticed that the longer Italian type peppers change much faster and have a very similar flavor to bells. Your plants sure look healthy and full of nice peppers though.

  4. Mine are long since spent and gone. I've already pulled them up. :( Wasn't a good year for Bellpeppers.

  5. I'd be worried about taking any outdoor pests inside, but as long as you examine the plants closely that shouldn't be a problem. I would love to be able to take some plants inside, but then I wouldn't have enough room to walk around the apt!

  6. Wish I could help with the bell pepper question. But your bells look nice so don't be too disheartened.

  7. We have plenty of green ones as well - they may or may not turn before I just ahead and pick them. Now we know the reason colored bells cost so much more than green at the grocery store :)

The Chinese Mustard seeds we got from you have done great - the plants are one of the greens in our braising mix that we've been harvesting for the last couple of weeks.
