Garlic Scape Pesto... Garicky goodness!

On Tuesday, I harvested garlic scapes for the first time.  Look at these beauties!
And this one.  I am going to eat you.
More glorious scapes!  It's too bad we only get to eat these once a year!
I harvested about 30 scapes and decided to make a batch of pesto. I followed this recipe from the Washington Post, except I used the entire scape.  In the recipe it said not to use the flower bud part, but I used it anyway.  I used my food processor to do all the chopping and mixing.  Boy did this smell garlicky, I mean like knock you off your feet garlicky!
Surprisingly, it made a large amount of pesto.  About a quart full!
I ended up using a bit of it and put the rest in the freezer.
I cooked up some thin spaghetti and tossed in the pesto with some more parmesan cheese and warmed it all in a skillet.  Oh my goodness, it is SO delicious!  The only thing I'm sorry about is that we are only growing 40 cloves of garlic.  I so want to grow more to get more scapes!  It's incredibly good!  I can't wait to try this pesto on pizza, all the garden bloggers have been recommending that.  The one thing my husband said when he tried the pasta, "We can only eat this at home when we are not going out, this is so garlicky that I'm afraid of what my breath will be like."  hahahahahaha
