More Seeds!

I popped into Whole Foods the other day to buy the home brew kit, and I noticed they had a stand selling Botanical Interests seeds!  How cool!  I really like their seeds, so it's nice to know I can buy them locally and not have to pay for the shipping.  What I like about this company is that they are family owned business, and they do NOT sell GMO seeds.  On their website they state, "we enthusiastically signed the SAFE SEED PLEDGE: We do not knowingly buy or sell genetically engineered seeds or plants."  I try to only support seed companies that deal with only non-GMO seeds.
Even though my seed box is completely overflowing, I decided to buy their Alfalfa Sprout seeds and Easter Egg Blend Radishes.   What's so cool about their seed packaging is that they have really nice drawings of the product and on the inside of the packaging, there are usually some additional information about the item, like recipes, and growing methods.  I can't wait to try to grow the Alfalfa!  Yum.

My Seed Box is Overflowing

It's funny how a year ago, we just started gardening. Fast forward to now, and I'm beginning to think that I have an addiction problem. I am totally addicted to collecting seeds!  Haha.  Gardening has become a total and complete obsession.  I think about it every day.  What will we grow next.  How's the seedlings doing.  What will the garden produce.  Here's a peek inside my seed box.  I discovered that these are my trusty tools that I can't live without.  They are the following:
1. Black Sharpie Marker
2. Washable Glue
3. Tape
4. Little containers to hold seeds in
5. Plant tags
6. Ruler, especially the measuring tape
7. Pad of paper
8. Seeds, lots and lots of seeds.

What are things you keep in your seed box that you can't live without?

Sustainable Seed Company

A couple of days ago, the seeds I ordered from Sustainable Seed Company came in the mail. Thanks "Garden Now Think Later" for telling us about this AWESOME seed company. After I read her post, I looked at the website, and I love their seed pledge. This is definitely a company I want to support! I took advantage of the great half off sale they were having. I picked up seeds for echinacea that I want to grow next year. Has anyone ever grown Black Eyed Susans and Coneflower from seed? Is it hard to germinate? For the fall crops, I bought Cherry Belle and French Breakfast radishes and some buttercrunch lettuce. I hate radishes, but my husband eats them like candy. I think they are too peppery for my taste.

My seed box is growing! I had to upgrade to a bigger box! Since there are more than enough seeds in the new packets, if anyone wants to do a seed exchange for any of the radishes, lettuce or flowers, let me know!

Very Burpee Disappointed

I'm pretty disappointed with Burpee seeds. I've had a really hard time getting them to germinate. I tried to plant lavendar, and only 2 plants germinated from seed. From the rosemary, I got nada. From the cilantro, they sprouted and immediately withered away. I never realized that herbs were so frustrating! Or is it just the Burpee seeds. Does anyone have any recommendations for seed companies that germinate pretty successfully every time?
I bought 2 packages of spearmint, and as you can see in the 2nd green pot below, there is like maybe one seed that germinated. Out of 2 seed packets!!
