When we moved into our house a year ago, one of the things we finally were able to do is to have people over and at last not feel so claustrophobic. You see, when we lived in Brooklyn, we lived in a 1 bedroom apartment, and by city standards, it was "spacious" but the kitchen was so small, only 1 person could stand to be in there at one time. I always felt like we were living in a closet! The kitchen was TINY, there wasn't even room to fit a table or anything. So when we bought this place, we finally could entertain without having to sit on each other's lap. (haha just kidding) One evening, we invited my husband's boss and his family over for dinner, and they graciously gave us a Pier One Imports gift card as a house warming gift. I used the gift card on this lovely cookie jar. I've been drooling over it for awhile, but didn't want to buy it, so now I had an excuse! Plus, I had a 10% off coupon, so with the savings, I was able to splurge on two jars!
I love that jar! I have been pining over that same jar, except I think the one I found is at Pottery Barn, and stupid expensive.
ReplyDeleteI totally feel your joy and pain on moving out of and into your own home. We moved last year as well (coming up on 1 year of ownership!!) and I do NOT miss our tiny space. We can actually entertain more than 2 people now and not have to cringe when someone decided to "help" in the "kitchen"
Oh I so empathise with you one bedroom place. I am presently in a simialr situation. I enjoy cooking, but cannot invite anyone over as more than 4 people and the palce is crowded, and the kitchen is like your old one - only one other person can come in. Dream of that house with a big kitchen, is still a dream.
ReplyDeleteLovely Cookie Jar - are the cookies homeemade.
Kind wishes
That is cute the way you wrote the 'cookies'..Who doesn't love to see yummies in a jar when they come home from school...err, I mean work or errands. haha
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend!
Nice of his boss. Cool!
ReplyDeleteOurs would stay empty....
i love that jar. i'd like to have more than one, to keep pastas, beans etc. sorry, i'm dreaming...
ReplyDeleteWe live in the house my husband grew up in. There are a number of rooms, but none very big. Larry keeps saying we don't have room to have his family over. I think we do, as they raised 5 kids here, plus, we used to come over with our kids.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever shown your kitchen in any posts? I'd like to see it. I feel the kitchen is an extension of our gardens, especially when we grow some of our food.
That's a nice jar.
