Using Coffee Bags as Planters

Yesterday after my client meeting, I met my friend Ruth for a cup of coffee at Joe's. Joe's is a coffee place with 5 locations in the city.  What I like about them is that they are an environmentally conscious company.  They have a compost and recycling program where you can bring coffee grinds and organic material to their store and they will compost it for you.  Also, they note that all of their containers are recycled.  I love how they are re-using their 5 pound coffee bags as planters in their front window.  What an amazing idea.

Here's another look from inside the coffee shop.  Also, for you New Yorkers,  if you bring your own to-go mug they give you 10 cents off every drink!  This is their incentive program to encourage less cup waste.  I love to support businesses that are friendly to the environment.

  1. I like this recycling idea. Not only used coffee can be applied to plants, even the bag is useful.

  5. That's a neat idea! You could easily make a hanging herb garden with those as the containers.

  8. The bags are not unattractive, either! Shiny! Pretty! Even better that they give you a deal if you bring your cup....

  9. Did they give you used coffee grounds? I heard Starbucks will give them away to gardeners to compost in your home garden, but I never walked into the store to ask. I could use a few hundred pounds of grounds!

  10. Nice. The plants look like asparagus ferns too me.

  11. Great idea!! The Caribou Coffee shop in my area gives grounds away for free, although I always just compost my own. I'm glad the snow has cleared away enough that you're out and about!
