The only tomato that is ripening on the vine right now are the Sungolds. This is my first time growing these yummy little golden morsels. They will definitely make a comeback in the garden next year.
I absolutely love the taste of these orange cherries. They are sweet with a burst of flavor. I only wish they were heirlooms so I could save the seeds. Granny told me they were hybrids. Does anyone know of a similar tasting tomato that are heirlooms?
I will have to send you some Isis Candy cherry tomato seeds. They are the most delicious and sweet cherries EVER, and they are heirloom!
ReplyDeleteThese are my favorite tomato. I was going to try some black cherry tomatoes (I think that's what they're called) but I never got around to it. I might start a couple anyway just to see if I can get some before winter. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking the tiny red ones I grew this year are a hybrid too. Bummer cause they are good.
ReplyDeleteThey are my favorite tomato, and one I have planted every summer for 5 years now. The tasty little morsels sometimes don't even make it into the house. This year I tried a few other varieties but none of those are close to ripe yet.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried these before, but they sound yummy.
ReplyDeleteI'm up to my ears in tomatoes this year and I only plant them in containers on my deck. I think the secret was getting bigger containers this year and oh...lots and lots of sun.
I've not found any cherry tomatoes as tasty as Sungold, hybrid or heirloom. A packet of Sungold seeds lasts me for three years, and I get more than my money's worth from all the tomatoes I harvest. I also give plants away. Once people taste one, they want to grow them!
ReplyDeleteYesterday someone brought a whole big box of them into the soup kitchen where I volunteer. Everyone was pigging out eating them!
If you let a few fall on the ground, they will even come back on their own next year. They can even become a little 'invasive'. A small price to pay for such a good tomato!
ReplyDeleteI've got SunGold's cousin SunSugar and it's just as delicious. Finally it's coming on strong. I suppose it was worth the wait but I never like waiting. :)
ReplyDelete@Garden Hoard, I'm growing Isis Candy too. Actually I have also Tiny Tim, and Chocolate Cherry. Neither of them are ripe yet for the picking.
ReplyDeleteThose ripe tomoatoes are ready for harvest.

If they reseed themselves, then you can save the seed and grow them again. I'd give it a try, anyway.
ReplyDeleteI would love to trade for some sungold tomato seeds! I'll send you an email.
