Dreaming of a Wood Stove

On the family farm, they have a wood stove that I am so envious of. This stove is not only used to cook meals but also produces enough heat to heat the entire house.  I love appliances that are dual purpose, it's so fantastic!  The hubs and I have been thinking of whether we want to get a smaller stove like this for our own kitchen.  We are planning to gut our "70s" kitchen and think it would be so nice to have a wood burning stove.  The smell of the burning wood is amazing, and the fact that I could cook on it too is really appealing.
Here's the firewood on their front porch.  They get it delivered by the Amish by horse drawn buggy. That must be quite the sight!

  2. That's a great stove! My grandparents had one that was a little fuller than this one. It was tan and cream colored. It had a built-in hot water tank for washing things (not in the tank, but outside), and double doors above the range area. It was a beautiful work of art! When they passed and the farm was sold, the new owners wanted it out for room for a new stove, so they broke it apart with a sledge hammer so they could get it out. We didn't find that out until after the fact. What a waste!

  5. that's a neat store, but I can assure you that I don't want one.

We didn't even put in a fire place when we built our house. Cause I can't stand fooling with fire wood.

We did put gas and electric stovetops in our kitchen so we still have a means to cook if the electicity goes out.

    As well as gas/electric heat.

  6. I love the stove! Seems like a lot of work, but I am sure it would be worth it.

  7. I used too have a wood cookstove in another life. It was great in the winter. The cats curled up underneath it and it was the first place everyone went to when they came inside. I loved coking on it. In summer it was a bummer. If I wanted to cook anything I had too get up really early and get it done before it got too hot. Luckily summer heat barely lasted a month in our northern BC home. We used a gas BBQ to take up the slack.

  9. Hi Wendy,
No, it's not an antique. It's a new stove with an "antique" look. It's really pretty in person.
