Mantis, Meet Mantis

This year we bought a kiwi green Honda Element.  It was time, our old car broke down on Route 80 once, and it was the scariest experience ever!  We crawled home at 40 mph on a highway that has a 65 mph speed limit.  Grammie named our car "Mantis" because it's so bright green in color! Little did she know that this was an appropriate name for the car.  Continue reading below!
This weekend, we went to out to get pizza at Goodfellas.  The best brick oven pizza!  We order the chicken parmesan pizza.  Delcious!
I was so amazed how big the piece of basil was on the pizza.  Get a load of this!  It was almost as large as a slice of pizza!  Whoa!

After the pizza, we decided to get a beer at the Killmeyer's bier garden.  I love a good German Weisse!
As we were sipping on our beer, this little kitty came through a hole in the fence and hung around enjoying the atmosphere and the live band.  A very chill kitty.
When we left, we got in the car and noticed a huge mantis on the windshield of our car!  This is the first praying mantis I've ever seen in Staten Island.  I told my husband that she must have been attracted to our green car "Mantis".  Our car was like the mother ship calling her in.  She probably thought our green car was a giant plant!
We had a paper bag in the car, so we scooped her into the bag and transported our little mantis friend to our garden.  We figure it would make a better home here than in the parking lot of some bar!

  1. I've done the same thing with lady bugs and butterflies. Took them home to be free in the country. And I do turtle rescues.

    The pizza looks insanely good.

I luv the Kiwi color of your Element. Mine is the burgandy color. I told my husband when I wear mine out, my next vehicle was going to be another Element. He asked if I was going to get the same color. I told him of course not. Otherwise people wouldn't know that I had gotten another car.

I usually always get a new vehicle after mine is paid off. I had all plans of giving my sister this one. Her poor old Explorer is falling apart. But, with the economy and since the Element has been a fantastic vehicle. I'm going to keep this one at least a year longer.

  2. Let me guess, was it the wheel bearings? Reminds me of a trip I took to MN alone with a 6 month old... wheel bearings went out in W. VA and I had to turn around and "crawl" back here doing about 40 mph LOL!

Love the mantis, saw our first of the year last night on the screen door!

  3. M, pizza and beer, no better combination and especially when hubby wants to watch a football game, which he doesn't often do.

How appropriate that your Grammie should name the car, and I would have been scooping the little critter up too... I know he was wanting to hitch a ride to your garden.

  4. That's hilarious. Maybe it was trying to mate with your car. I was reading and hoping you would say that you took it home because I love these bugs. I've only ever seen one in the garden before.

  5. That pizza looks absolutely devine! Yum!

That kitty is a darling. It looks a little like Charlie - Dan at Urban Veggie Garden Blog's kitty.

Good work bringing the mantis home to your garden. They are fascinating creatures. They creep me out enough that I won't touch them, but really do love seeing them in the garden.

  6. Great car colour Meemsnyc. I sure the mantis will be far happier in your garden.
