Dreaming of Strawberry Jam

For the next couple of blog posts, I'll be writing about all the perennial edible plants we planted last year. I'm a bit of a lazy gardener, so perennials are my favorites.  With such little care, they come back year after year.  The flowers are a blooming on the Everbearing Strawberry plants. These plants are a year old, so this will be our first year to harvest berries!   I can't wait for the fruit to start producing. The plants are so healthy and there are lots of flowers!  We also bought bird netting to cover the strawberry bed, hopefully that will deter any critters.
Home grown strawberries are so much sweeter than their store counterparts.  I can't wait to try some!  I hope we have enough strawberries to make some jam with.  Ooooh, jam!

  1. Fun! They are SO much better in your own garden! How many plants do you have?

  2. I agree, there is no comparison to homegrown, they are the best. We have rabbits all around so I don't know how long they would last here.

  3. We've gotten a few off of ours and my hubby says they are sweeter than store bought.

  4. Stawberry jam is so very over-rated. I'm a raspberry man, myself. I do like a raspberry with vodka.

  5. Unless you have lots of strawberry plants, you won't have enough to make jam! You're more likely to eat them right off the plant! Lol! We usually get ours from PYO farms(for jam).

  6. Excellent! Yes - so much sweeter than anything you'll buy in a store.

I just bought a few Everbearing Strawberry plants as well as a couple of Alpine Strawberry plants and I'm going to put them in containers in the sunniest spot I can find and cross my fingers! I'm not expecting much, but I would so love to pick a few berries to eat this summer!

Good luck with yours - how great that they've come back for you!
