Fall is well in the Air!

Today is another rainy cold day and the temperature has dropped to 54 degrees.  Wow, cold!  It definitely feels like Fall is here and Winter is quickly approaching. The trees in our backyard have not started changing color yet.  Soon, very soon.  Here are some photos I took in the car ride on the way home from the family farm.  They have Amish as neighbors, and horse drawn carts are very common on their street.  The Amish do not like their photos taken, so I made sure that you couldn't see them in the photo.
It's a long car ride from the family farm to our house. At least 7 hours without traffic. NYC traffic is sometimes a bit scary, we've been in a lot of traffic jams where we are stuck for hours so we hoped for the best.   Lucky for us, the first 1/4 of the trip is very scenic. At least there are nice landscapes to look at for the 376 miles that we have to travel.  Aren't these trees turning colors just gorgeous?
On our route is another type of farm, a wind farm!! I don't know if you can see this but there are windmills on the top of this ridge / mountain. (Bigify photo for a closer look) I think this is so cool to harnass the power of the wind to make energy. This wind farm was near a town called Lowville, NY, I think it's the Maple Ridge Wind Farm, which is the largest wind farm in NY State.
I was so enthralled with all the farms we passed with acres and acres of corn. Wow! Fields of corn like this always remind me of that movie, "Field of Dreams."
Here, our GPS is saying, "312 miles to go..." OH, Shut up Tom Tom!

  1. We have wind farms all over around here. I think they are peaceful to watch.

  2. Lovely pictures. We spent some time in New York two years ago and I loved the countryside the best. I could have stayed there. I really diidn't care much for the city life.

  3. I love road trips! Especially this time of the year when the leaves are changing color.

  4. The windmills in Lowville are very impressive. We live about 1 hour away from them. I haven't driven up that way this year, but the countryside is beautiful at this time of the year.

  5. Some of the trees here are starting to turn (especially the sugar maples, they are always first). I agree with Thomas -- road trip! Especially when you drive through farm country.

  6. It looks like those colors will be bursting out very soon! That windfarm looks pretty neat. I wouldn't mind having a small wind turbine myself!

  7. A long trip, but worth the scenery and the veggies!

  8. Some of those photos reminded me of my own state, Nebraska. We have lots of corn fields. We also have some windmills like those, but I don't think we have that many on any one property. Great photos!
