A Pile of Holiday Pine

I was walking to my client meeting today in the city and street after street were these ginormous piles of dead Christmas trees. I always get a little sad when I see a pile of pine at the end of the holidays. The only thing that makes me feel better about it is that the Parks department takes these trees and mulch them. At least it will take on a new purpose rather than sit in a landfill.

  3. We drop ours off at the the parks here and they get dumped out in the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic just offshore to create reef habitat! I love how the different states put them to use though, just a few years back nothing was done.

  4. I've noticed this too, Meems. I always look to see what variety of trees people are buying. People seem to prefer the green, short needled ones to the blue ones or ones with longer needles..Hope they all get recycled!

  5. It is sad to see these trees. In the past, I thought it bad for people to use live trees for christmas, but now I have reconsidered. These trees do not come out of the woods but they come from tree farms. So folks who buy them are supporting tree farmers, now if they would just support their local tree farmer, all would be good. :)

  6. I passed our city truck with a mulcher attached, mulching trees today. Just remember - tree farmers replant every year.

  7. Here in Virginia, some of the cities take the old christmas trees and use them for preventing erosion of the beach sand. They work pretty good for that.

  8. My hubby would luv to have that pile. He'd make a fish attractor in the Rez by piling them up. The large mouth Bass luv brush piles.
