Planting the Carrot Seeds

For this year, I decided to try Annie Granny's method of planting carrot seeds by making homemade seed mats. You can see the great tutorial of how she makes her seed mats here.  This year we are growing Scarlet Nantes, Cosmic Purple, Parisienne, and Purple Haze.  I am so excited about the purple variety that we are growing this year, I've never tried these before so it'll be a fun experiment.  I got both of the Purples and Parisienne from a seed swap.   I love seeds swaps because it gives you a chance to try a new variety without committing to a whole packet of seeds.   I can't wait to see if these germinate soon!

  1. That is a smart idea as last year my hubby did the carrots and put them in Very thick and then didn't think he needed to thin them...so this will be a much better plan.

  2. It will be great o see how those mats work! I think most of the time my carrots get washed away! My little Satanic Boy Scouts were totally fascinated when I told them about purple haze.

  3. I think I'll try this once I get the carrot bed ready.

  5. That's a variety of carrots! We don't even get those varieties here, except for scarlet nantes!

  6. It's great to see how purple carrots grow and end up on dinner plate.

  7. I'll have to check that out. I have some carrots coming up, and they will need to be thinned soon.

  8. I read the tutorial. That is simply genius! I will have to try that out. Would have never thought to do it that way. The glue doesn't ruin the seeds? So awesome!
